I told you there would be waffles. |
First of all you need to sift your dry ingredients into a bowl |
Like this. |
Then, take the yolks and mix them with the oil... |
...and milk. |
Make a well in the middle of your dry stuff... |
..and pout the wet stuff in the middle. Easy? |
Mix until combined. |
Now its egg white time. |
Whisk those whites! |
Until they go white and frothy.. |
..and form soft peaks like this. |
Fold in gently, maintaining the bubbles |
Spoon 2-3 tbsp of waffle batter into a hot, oiled waffle iron. |
After 3 minutes, they should look something like this. |
You can cool them on a rack if you like.. |
..and sprinkle with icing sugar |
Eat them like this. |
Or like this. |
Or even like this! (p.s. yes! ice cream is a great idea) |
Basic(yummy)Waffle Batter
makes approx. 6 waffles
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons white sugar
4 egg yolks
4 egg whites
1 1/4 cups milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Optional (even more yummy) Extras
1 tsp rum, i use this one
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1 vanilla bean, instead of extract (pricey but wowee you can really taste the diff!)
Chocolate chips or anything naughty but brilliant little things like that can go into the batter too, or on top of the finished waffles..and of course whipped cream, ice cream, any cream is good.
